Mets 3 – Nationals 0
What Rain?
Last night, with no rain, the Mets cancel the game. Tonight, in pouring rain, the Mets and Nationals play a full nine innings. Mets Blob could rag on the drainage problems at Saul Katz field but we won’t. Bernie Madoff told the Wilpons he had a drainage specialist that worked cheap and the Wilpons hired the guy. If you can’t trust Bernie Madoff to steer you in the right direction, who can you trust?
The Game
Jon Niese was strong, throwing 7 shutout innings. Izzy pitched a scoreless 8th and K-Rod put two runners on in the 9th but shut the door for the save.
Justin Turner drilled a 2 run double in the 6th inning to put the Mets up by 3. Turner continues to impress.
Jose Reyes had another three hits. He leads the league in base hits and multiple hit games. Jose is on base for over 225 hits, which would shatter the Mets single season record.
Jason Bay hit a weak sacrifice fly and continues to suck.
He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Mediocre Brother
Jerry and Scott Hairston squared off in another tepid battle of the Hairston brothers. Mets Blob rates the Hairston brothers as the most mediocre brother combination to play Major League ball. The DiMaggio brothers, the Canseco brothers, the Niekro brothers and the Maddux brothers all featured one star and one lesser player. The Hairston’s are quite unique – each brother is, at best, average. If anyone comes up a more mediocre brother combo, let us know.
