THE HAPPY NIGHTCAP
• After striking out with men on second and third in the first inning, D. Wright comes through big time with a 4 hit game. His first 4 hit game in nearly two years.
• We know it’s early but the vibe on the team feels better.
• Reyes looks faster than he has been in years. Hopefully leg problems are behind him.
• Collins brings new lefty specialist, Tim Byrdak, into game in 8th inning to pitch to Howard and Ibanez. In the past, Met managers would have seen the big lead and messed around by throwing anyone out there to finish game. Phillies are explosive and in that park no lead is safe. They have proven in the past. Collins went to Byrdak - good, smart, aggressive baseball.
• Kevin Burkhardt is now Twittering during the game. Keith has already had it with K.B.’s multimedia whoring. After Gary talked up the Tweeting Mannequin, Keith quipped “Oh Kev, this is too much for me, please.” We love Keith.
• Hitters look aggressive and confident. We know some people don’t put much stock in batting coaches, but here at Met’s BLOB we do. Howard Johnson was an awful batting coach, the entire team was pressing and guess hitting for years. Talented players looked lost. Maybe Dave Hudgens knows what he is doing.
• And of course Hu was on first.
