• Tejada's Error Gives San Diego the Split •

Padres 3 - Mets 2
Today's camper day game vs. the San Diego Padres was the final game of the 4 game set. The lefty-lefty match up of Corey Luebke and Jon Niese started out as a tight pitcher's duel until Lucas Duda broke open the game for the Mets when he ripped a 2 run double to right field.

The Mets loaded the bases in the bottom the 5th but they failed to expand the lead.

Niese was cruising until Cameron Maybin hit a solo homer in the top of the 6th, cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Padres tied the game at 2 in the top of the 7th when a Luis Martinez single found it's way into left field scoring Aaron Cunningham - who had lead off the inning with a double.
The Padres took a 3-2 lead when Maybin singled and stole 2 bases. With 2 outs, Ruben Tejada muffed a ground ball that should have been the 3rd out, allowing Maybin to score. This would be all the Padres would need to hold on for the win as the Met bats remained quiet for the rest of the game. This was a tough loss for Niese who pitched a great game until he was removed in the 8th.
Mets Blob knows Ruben Tejada is young but we are not seeing what many in the Mets organization and the media are raving about. What we are always told about Ruben is that he has exceptional glove and great baseball instincts. The only question is if his bat can mature to be consistent at the major league level. But in Ruben's time with the Mets this season we have seen numerous errors and mental gaffs.

The Mets now hit the road to Arizona to take on the 1st place Diamondbacks. When the Mets last faced the D'Backs, Arizona was a mess. Clearly they have turned things around overtaking the World Champion San Fransisco Giants at the top of the western division.
