•The Happy Walk-Off Nightcap•
Mets 9 - Padres 8
The NY Mets bounced back tonight after Sunday's tough loss to the Braves and the even more difficult loss of Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy. The Mets started out with a rare Citi Field power attack in support of Mike Pelfrey. Angel Pagan and Jason Bay each hit solo homers and David Wright hit a 2 run bomb to stake the Mets an early 4-1 lead.
But Pelfrey and the pen could not hold down the weakest offense in the National League. San Diego pounded Big Puff...I mean Pelf, and the 4-1 lead became a tie. The relief combo of Beato and Igarashi imploded and quickly the Mets were down 8-4.
In the bottom of the 8th, the Mets rallied and picked up 2 runs on a double hit by new call up and Queens native, Mike Baxter. Baxter is so new to the Mets that Mets Blob could ironically only find a photo of him in a San Diego Padres hat. Mike jumped on the first pitch he saw and hit it into the enormous Citi Field left center gap. Baxter's family was in the crowd and was thrilled to be there for his first hit as a Met. Mets Blob was also thrilled for him, as well as the fact that Mike pinch hitting for Igarashi and got his sorry ass out of the game.

The big fun came in the bottom of the 9th. Jason Pridie and Justin Turner each singled to set the table for David Wright. Wright ripped a single up the middle to bring the game within one run. Then Lucas "The Quiet Man" Duda delivered his 3rd and biggest hit of the night with a 2 run walk-off single to give the Mets the victory. It was truly a nice moment to see a Met team that's been beaten down all year celebrate on the field and enjoy themselves. This season has been riddle with injuries, traded All-Stars, and public attacks from Fred Wilpon. Tonight, the Mets fought hard and came back and won. As the 2011 season winds down, games like this are the ones we as fans need to remember and enjoy.
