- The Happy Nightcap -
The Mets topped the Reds tonight at the Great American Ballpark 8-6 in a wild game. Reds ace, Johnny Cueto gave up 6 unearned runs in 5 innings thanks to awful Cincinnati defense. The Reds officially made 3 errors but could have been charged with 5 or 6. Jon Niese was cruising with a 4-1 lead heading to the bottom of the 5th but fell apart allowing the Reds to take a 5-4 lead on an opposite field Joey Votto homer. The Mets answered back in the top of the 6th on a Jason Pridie 2 run double to take a 6-5 lead.
Here is where things got interesting. Niese was pulled after the 5th and the Mets had to get through the last four innings without Bobby Parnell and Jason Isringhausen - who were both unavailable. Manny Acosta, Ryota Igarashi, Pedro Beato and Tim Byrdek all pitched lights out to shut the door on the Reds as the Mets hung on for the 8-6 win.
Daniel Murphy continued his torrid pace with a 3 for 4 night. Justin Turner, David Wright and Jason Pridie each added 2 hits. Wright has come out swinging since his return and it is nice to see.
