- The Happy Nightcap -
R. A. Dickey and the Mets took the first of 4 tonight in Cincinnati 4-2. This was first Dickey's first win since June 28th and the victory once again brought the Mets back to the .500 mark. Too bad the Mets are not in the central division where a .500 record keeps you neck and neck with 3 teams for first place. Offensive highlights included David Wright going 2-5 with a run scored and Daniel Murphy going 2-5 with 2 doubles, 1 RBI and a run scored. A big deal was made over Jason Bay driving in Murphy for the Mets 4th run with his first double in 50 games and 186 at bats. Whoppty fucking Dudley Do-Right! He is supposed to hit doubles, that's his $65 million freaking job. That was only Bay's fifth double of the year! Murphy hit 2 tonight alone. Mets Blob bets relief pitcher Manny Acosta could come up with 2 doubles by accident in 186 at bats over 50 games. Jason hitting a double tonight was not a feel good story but rather a painful reminder of how shockingly bad he has been as a NY Met.
Bobby Parnell came back strong after blowing the lead last night, pitching a scoreless 8th. Bobby threw mainly fastballs after getting beat last night with his slider. Jason Isringhausen got the save pitching a crazy 9th that ended with Izzy striking out Brandon Phillips with the bases loaded.
Jason had to work his way around a David Wright error and a Daniel Murphy drop, flop and stop maneuver that ended with Murph diving head first into Izzy's ribcage while simultaneously slapping first base with glove to record an out. Daniel Murphy fields like Pee Wee Herman on crystal meth.
