The Mets fell to the Marlins tonight 8-5 in a game that unraveled quickly for Chris Capuano. Chris was sharp for five innings, but the Marlins jumped on him for 4 runs in the 6th highlighted by an Omar Infante triple and home runs from Gaby Sanchez and Logan Morrison. Sanchez "The Met Impaler" later homered again off of D.J. "I have more variety in game socks than I do in my pitches" Carrasco.
The first four hitters in the Mets lineup put up a fight going 8 for 15 with 4 walks and 4 runs scored. Unfortunately, the rest of the Mets lineup went 1 for 19, low-lighted by Jason Bay who had his usual 0 for 4 game with 2 strikeouts. Tonight, Bay was dropped to the 7th spot in the lineup, but it made no difference. Jason Bay is over matched by Major League pitching. If the Mets were not paying him such an obscene amount of money, Bay would be playing in Buffalo. Mets Blob wonders when Mets management will wake up and smell the foul Canadian air?
One late game highlight was Lucas Duda and Jose Reyes hitting back to back home runs in the top of the 9th. While it's become common place this season to see Reyes go 3-5 mixing in a home run, for Duda this was his first HR this season.
We've all been waiting for Duda to start showing the power we know he has. Lucas has been productive lately getting some big hits in clutch spots and putting together solid at bats. Hopefully, this homer can free Duda from his power schneid and he can begin a Buffaloesk bomb brigade that he was known for in Bison country.
