• It's Do or Die Time for The Metropolitans •

• 2011 May Be Over for The NY Mets •
Bluto:
Over? Did you say, "Over?" Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Sadly Bluto, Mets Blob fears you may be wrong. Both the NY Mets and the Atlanta Braves have gone 5-5 in their last 10 games. The difference is the Braves are presently the Wild Card front runners, and the Mets are grasping for their last straws of relevance in the 2011 season. They say unless it's game 7, there are no must win games. For certain no one would ever claim a series in early August is a must win situation for any team, but for the Mets it is.

The Mets now trail the Braves by 8 games in the Wild Card race. In the past week, NY had plenty of chances to gain a few games on Atlanta which could have made this series very interesting. Instead, the Mets played their worst defense of the season. What was witnessed was a combo of The Bad News Bears meets T-ball for the emotionally and physically challenged meets drunken accountants playing softball at the company picnic meets the love child of Mackey Sasser & Chuck Knoblauch.
Each and every Met late inning collapse was the equivalent of a baseball Hindenburg. Every one a masterpiece of suck - worthy of hanging on the walls of the Metropoliton Museum of Art. Murphy and Turner and Izzy, oh my! The Mets now have to take at least 2-3 from the Braves at Citi Field, their home field, AKA the place they suck the most, to keep hope alive.
Anything less and Met fans need to start looking at 2011 in the rearview mirror.  Many thought the Mets may have be done when K-Rod was traded at the All-Star break. Many thought when Carlos Beltran was dealt a month later, so was meaningful baseball for the Mets. But now is the true line in the sand. Pitching match-ups, batting averages, and ERAs all mean nothing over the next 3 games. The only thing that matters is winning.
