Mets 6 - Angeles 1

Pelf Dominates Angels:
Creampelf
&
The Happy Nightcap
Mike Pelfrey was dominant tonight throwing a complete game 5 hitter against the Angels at Citi Field. It was Mike's third straight start without walking a batter. Pelf looked settled tonight, with none of the histrionics he is known for. He stood tall on the mound and went at people, pounding the strike zone.
Beltran Bombs Bridge:
Carlos Beltran unloaded on a Dan Haren fastball for one of the longest homers Mets Blob has ever seen at Citi Field. After the game, Terry Collins spoke about Beltran's great play and his leadership, saying when Carlos speaks up the team listens.

Run, Run, Run:

The Mets ran wild on Haren, stealing five bases. Reyes stole twice with Pagan, Turner and Bay each swiping a bag.

The Mets go for the series win at 1:10pm tomorrow. Let's do it for Dad!

*The Mets are only 3.5 games back in the Wild Card race.

Mike Scioscia - A Met Killer from Way Back

Since the Angels' rise as an AL Western power in the early 2000's, Met fans have enjoyed watching Mike Scioscia give hell to the NY Yankees. Possibly most enjoyable was their 2002 run to becoming World Series Champions. The Wild Card Angels picked off the heavily favored Yanks in the Division Series. The Angels went on to beat the Twins in the ALCS and then took World Series from Barry "Lab Rat" Bonds and the San Francisco Giants.
However, pulling for Mike Scioscia is something a long time Met never fan would never do. Only an even greater hatred for the Yankees and maybe Bonds could ever pull a true Met over to Mike's pudgy dark side. Young Blobbers may only know Mike Scioscia as the brilliant baseball mind from the west with a round face and red jacket who most resembles a human tomato.
The Mets won 100 games in 88' and were more seasoned and more powerful than when they took it all in 86.' But in game 4 of the 1988 NLCS, Mike Scioscia was a Met killer. Mets Blob was at Shea on that frigid Flushing night in early October.
The Blob's seats for the East vs. West showdown were not good. In fact they weren't even "decent", "not bad", or "OK." They sucked. Seated in the second to last row of the upper deck on the third base side, the Blob needed a sherpa to find the seats and had a greater chance of a bag of peanuts falling in his lap from a passing 747 than ever seeing a vendor in the furthest reaches of Shea.
But no matter, it was the NLCS, Doc was on the hill, and the Blob was there freezing his ass off and screaming his head off. All was warm in the hearts of Met fans until...
(from Wikipedia)
With a 4–2 lead going into the ninth inning, and Gooden cruising, the Mets looked to be a lock to take a commanding three games to one lead in the series. Since the first inning, Gooden had allowed one hit, and only four baserunners. But uncharacteristically, Gooden walked John Shelby to lead off the ninth, after having a two-strike count. Dodgers catcher Mike Scioscia then drilled a shocking two-run home run into the Mets bullpen in right field to tie the game.
The game lasted into the twelfth inning, where Kirk Gibson hit a two-out solo home run off Roger McDowell.
Although the Mets loaded the bases in their half of the twelfth inning, Orel Hershiser came in from the bullpen, the day after starting, and got McReynolds to fly out for the final out of the game. Hershiser got the save, and the Dodger win tied the series at two games apiece.
In the 1988 season, Sciosica only hit 3 home runs the whole year. After defeating the Mets in 7 games, Gibson's one legged heroics and Hershiser dominance would carry the Dodgers to the World Series title over The Oakland A's 1988.

Angels 4 - Mets 3

The Midnight Train FROM Georgia makes for a sleepy Mets team.

The Mets fell 4-3 to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in their first home game after a 10 game road trip.

The Mets looked and played sluggish and tired. The team didn't return to NY until 3am, and it showed. Mets Blob definitely noticed the spark the Mets have had in recent time was just not there tonight.

Citi Field vendor, Aldo "Beer Here" Alvarez, was quoted as saying, "They all look like freakin' Bay out there...fucking asleep!"

Rest up Mets and Blobbers. Tomorrow is a new day.

No Sweep in the House of Horrors

Braves 9 – Mets 8

This was tough. The Mets came back from 4 runs down tonight to take a 2 run lead into the bottom of the 9th inning but a sweep at Turner Field was not to be.

 The Good:
• Scott Hairston crushed a three run homer in the top of the fifth inning to even the score at six.
• Jose Reyes had three more hits and made a crazy bare handed play on a Jason Heyward chopper.
• Jason Bay had two hits and, though they were singles, hit the ball with authority.

The Bad:
• R.A. Dickey did not have it tonight putting the Mets in a big hole.
• K-Rod blew the lead giving up a 2 run homer to Brooks Conrad in the bottom of the 9th.

The Ugly:
• Lucas Duda pulled a Daniel Murphy, ranging way off first base to prevent Ruben Tejada from fielding a routine ground ball in the bottom of the 10th. With Tejada on the field there is no need to leave your position. Let Ruben field the ball.
• D.J. Carrasco balked in the winning run.

Welcome to .500

The Happy .500 Nightcap
Mets 4 - Braves 0

Between 2 rain delays and being hopped up on cold medicine, Mets Blob is a little fuzzy about tonight's game.
Let's see what the Blob can recall:
• Rain
• Hail
• Lightening
• The Mets sign prospect, Darryl Strawberry, and are excited about Danny Heep this year.
• Reyes lead off with a Double, advanced to third, and scored on a ground ball out by Tejada.
• Dillon Gee struck out 5 and only gave up one hit in four innings.
• Angel Pagan hit a 2 run homer after a Murphy single.
• Rain
• The Mets close the Polo Grounds and move to the new state of the art Shea Stadium.
• Banner day is a big hit at Shea.
• Jerry Koosman got the opening day start and had to face Willie Mays.
• Game back on
• Mets get the sacks full but only pick up 1 more run.
• The Mets can't bunt for shit. This needs to change.
• Angel Pagan pulls another Met base running boner.
• Mets pen dominates the Braves pen to hold on to get the win.

• Reyes once again starts the show.
• Pagan & Bay both go 2-4. YES BAY went 2-4!
• Gee, D.J., Parnell, & K-Rod combine for a 2 hit shutout.
• Parnell struck out 5 in 2 innings and hit 99 on the gun many times.
• Terry does not mess around and has K-Rod close up 4. Good call Terry.
• The Mets reach the .500 mark, plus take the series from the Braves at Turner field.

Dickey goes for the sweep @ 7:10 tonight

Goooood night all!

This is a great story about Jose Reyes from 2007. It gives you a good idea of how far he has come and how it keeps him humble. USA Today • Reyes story from 2007
