Mets Aim to be More Fan Friendly

The New York Mets announced today that when they return to Citi Field, the fans are in for a treat. Inspired by the wild success of the Washington Nationals' Presidents Race and the Milwaukee Brewers' Sausage Race, the Mets will now have a mascot race to call their own.
Beginning May 3rd when the Mets open a six game homestand against the World Champion San Francisco Giants, each and every home game will feature a guaranteed laugh-out-loud spectacle for Met fans. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Debtor, Citi Field presents:
 THE MADOFF SCRAMBLE
Freddy "Fed Pen" Wilpon, Saul "Fat" Katz and Jeff "C-Note Evil" Wilpon

The Happy Nightcap

Mets 6 - Diamondbacks 4

• Mets pound out 15 hits and score 6 runs for their third consecutive victory.

• All of the Mets runs came with 2 outs. We almost forgot what clutch hitting looked like. Nice to see.

• Murphy drives in the go ahead run to make up for an error that led to 2 unearned runs.

• Jason Bay hits opposite field HR estimated at 425 feet. Bay had given the Mets the lead earlier in the game with a 2 run single.

• Ike goes back to back with Bay for his third straight game with a HR. Ike's HR lands in the back of the Pepsi Porch, an estimated 420 feet.

• Dillon Gee was strong again, giving up only 2 earned runs over 6 innings.

• Beato and Izzy did a nice job out of the pen.

• Francisco Rodriguez was shaky as usual, but nailed down the game stranding runners at 2nd and 3rd.

Another Happy Nightcap!

Mets 4 – Diamondbacks 1

• Mike Pelfrey showed guts stranding a man at third with no outs in the first inning. Good job Mike. Quality pitchers fight through tough situations. Pelf went on to pitch 7 strong innings, giving up a lone run with 5 K’s and only 2 walks.

• Ike hit a wicked line drive to dead center for a 2 run HR in the bottom of the 7th giving the Mets a 2 to 1 lead. The shot was initially ruled a double but replays confirmed that the ball cleared the orange line for a round-tripper.

• Not to go unnoticed, the dugout erupted after Ike crossed the plate - led by Reyes who was cheering and pounding Ike on the helmet. The Mets can’t afford to trade Reyes. He brings a passion that is genuine and unmatched on this team. Alderson, if you can’t appreciate Jose’s talent, fire and love of the game - you should find another line of work. When the new owners come aboard, stop the nonsense and sign Reyes to a long term deal.

• Izzy pitched a perfect 8th inning.

• Before the game Angel Pagan was put on the 15 day DL with a strained oblique. During the game we learned that Ronnie Paulino - on his rehab assignment - strained his oblique. 10 years ago, no one heard of an oblique muscle. Now, players fall to this injury on a daily basis. The Blob wonders how players of yesteryear managed to go through an entire career without suffering the dreaded oblique strain: “Ladies and gentlemen, can I have your attention please. Unfortunately, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig will not be playing in today’s game. Both men have been forced to the bench by strained oblique muscles.”  What?

• 2 wins in a row is kind of fun.

DEAR MIKE

Dear Mike,

Can you make it through one game without eating your uniform, snacking on a towel and licking your hand? Check out some Tom Seaver footage and study how a Major League pitcher is supposed to act.

Yours truly,
